What Happens to Your Book Donation?
 We sort and store book donations to sell at our major fundraiser, the Crab Fest Annual Book Sale. Proceeds from sales support the Kodiak Public Library’s collections and programs.
We may also use donated books for Little Free Libraries, book swaps, and other community reading initiatives.
Anything unsuitable for sale will be recycled.
Guidelines
We accept gently used books, CDs, and DVDs of all genres, as long as they’re in good condition.
Drop your books off at Cost Savers
For donations over five boxes of books, please contact us to coordinate a drop off.
We do not accept the following
- Anything that is moldy, burnt, water-damaged, or dirty
- Anything with excessive markings, pages missing, or damaged covers
- Textbooks or reference materials over five years old
- Readers Digest Condensed Books
- Magazines
Book Donation FAQ
Help! I donated something that I wasn’t supposed to donate. How do I get it back?
Email hello@kpla.us with a description of the book or books, approximately when it was donated, and other items it was donated along with.
How do you determine prices for the book sale?
Prices are based on how many books we have, the quality of books, and other factors. Prices may change from year to year. Books may be priced by the bag, individually, or a combination of both.
How can I help with collection and sorting?
There will be volunteer opportunities throughout the year to help prepare for the books ale. Please follow our Facebook page for volunteer opportunities or email hello@kpla.us for more information.
I have books that are more valuable than your average used book. How do I make sure it sells for the appropriate amount?
You can still drop the books off at Cost Savers for donation, but please email us at hello@kpla.us to let us know what you have dropped off and if you have a value in mind. We try to catch these books with your normal sorting process, but it not guaranteed. Any extra information is helpful!
I have lots of books to donate. Do I still take them to Cost Savers?
If you have more than five boxes of books, please email us at hello@kpla.us to coordinate a drop off directly to our storage site. If you have an event coming up, like a bazaar or book swap, that may have a lot of books left over to donate, please contact us with the details.
